Apartment block pitched-roof renewal
Full renewal of a five-storey block's pitched roof — battens, membrane, clay tiles, insulation and tinwork — carried out in phases with the building occupied.
Roof installationOverview
A complete renewal of the pitched roof on a five-storey residential block — new battens, membrane, clay tiles, insulation and tinwork — carried out in phases so residents could stay in their homes throughout.
The brief
Working over an occupied building meant strict attention to weather protection and safety, with each phase made watertight before the next was opened up.
What we did
How we did it
Phasing & protection
We split the roof into sections so each could be opened, worked and made watertight without exposing the flats below.
Strip & build-up
The old covering came off and new insulation, membrane and battens went on, section by section.
Tiling & detailing
Clay tiles were laid and dormers, penetrations and flashings detailed for a weathertight finish.
Rainwater & handover
The rainwater system was renewed and the completed roof handed over.
Outcome
The block has a renewed, properly insulated and weathertight roof, delivered in phases that kept residents in place throughout the works.
